Reform the BBC
I just saw an advert on a US website for Ed vs Spencer, a gameshow in which two room-mates try to beat each other at various challenges… Who can gain the most weight? Who can make the best porn? Only on BBC America…
Here’s the full schedule, from the BBC America website.
ABOUT THE SHOWCameras trail two best friends Ed and Spencer as they compete against each other in seemingly pointless challenges such as "Who can stay handcuffed the longest?", "Who do Women like the most?", or "Who can lose the most weight?"The fun of the show is not so much in the challenges, but in the competitors. Spencer is a doe-eyed innocent who steadfastly believes in hard work and persistence whilst Ed will happily lie, cheat and do whatever else it takes to win. Each week the loser has to endure not only the humiliation of defeat, but also a demeaning forfeit of the victor’s choosing. Coming across more like a demented sitcom than a reality-based show, think Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote crossed with The Odd Couple, or Sanford and Son for the Ashton Kutcher generation.Episode ListMarch 23rd - Who Can Make Himself the Sickest?March 30th- Who Can Stay Handcuffed the Longest?April 6th - Who's the Most Attractive to Women?April 13th - Who Can Survive in the Woods the Longest?April 20th - Who Can Make the Best Porn?April 27th - Who Is the Hardest?May 4th - Who Do Kids Like More?May 11th - Who Can Put On the Most Weight?May 18th - Who Can Make Himself More Famous?May 25th - Who Can Make the Most Money in Three Days
I am all for the BBC making money if it can do so to relieve pressure from the ridiculous license fee; but it is illegal in this country to operate a TV without paying an annual fee in the hundreds of pounds for the upkeep of this corporation as a public service broadcaster. Can anyone explain how they should be making this as a PSB? why a brand financed by a tax is being used for this?
